Tax return assistance available at Grady Public Library

Trained volunteers will be available to help residents prepare their taxes at the Oscar Grady Public Library in Saukville through a program co-sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Sessions of the free service will be held at 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. starting Thursday, Feb. 14. Other dates are Monday, Feb. 25; Monday, March 11; Thursday, March 28; and Monday, April 8.

Appointments must be made in advance. Each appointment will have a one-hour assigned spot starting at 10:30 a.m. The last scheduled appointment starts at 1.30 p.m. Three people can be seen each hour, for a total of 12 per day.

Walk-ins will not be accepted.

To be eligible to have help preparing a tax return, clients must have low to moderate incomes, have no rental property or farm income. Their business expenses must be less than $5,000 with no inventory or depreciation.

Clients must bring a photo ID and Social Security card, a copy of last year’s tax return and W-2 forms from each employer, along with  unemployment compensation statements, a Social Security 1099 form if they were paid Social Security benefits, 1099 tax forms and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets, 1099-R forms if they received a pension or annuity, dependent care provider information, the latest tax bill or rent certificate from a landlord if applying for the state homestead credit, and a personal check with bank routing number and account number if opting for direct deposit of a refund.

Everyone is required to fill out questionnaires when they sign in at the door and are asked to arrive 15 minutes before their appointment time.

All returns are electronically filed. Taxpayers will receive a printed copy of the return.
