Sylvia Miller

October 20, 1934 – May 1, 2024

It is with great sorrow our family announces the passing of Sylvia Miller, 89, of the Town of Fredonia on May 1, 2024, after a brief illness.

Sylvia was born and raised as the only child of Leroy and Mildred (Moths) Ahrens on a farm in the Town of Fredonia.

After their marriage, she and her husband built their home on a corner of the farm allowing Sylvia to live 87 of her 89 years on the farm.

Sylvia attended Center School in the Town of Fredonia, where she was the ‘all star’ second baseman on the baseball team.  Sylvia graduated from Random Lake High School with the Class of 1953.

It was there she met her loving husband.  She and Roger Miller were married on June 6, 1953, in Fayetteville, N.C., and celebrated their 70th anniversary last June.

Sylvia was an active member of the former St Paul’s Community Church in Waubeka, where she taught Sunday school alone and as a team with Roger. She was an assistant to the choir director.

Sylvia was also active in 4-H as the Explorers project leader, co-general leader of Little Kohler 4-H Club and at the county level as a member of the Ozaukee County 4-H Leaders Association.

Sylvia was first and foremost a loving mother to her children and maintained the family garden full of fresh berries and vegetables each summer. Canning, freezing and baking were second nature.

She later worked part-time for Phillips Sales and full time in customer service at Allen Edmonds, where she retired in 2000.

Her next passion was her grandchildren.  It always brought her great joy to attend their soccer games and school events wherever the schedule took them. After school treats were a specialty.

Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Roger, her son Todd and her daughter Cindy (David) Barber, both of Fredonia. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Joseph and Elnore.

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant twin daughters.

Private family services will be held at Eernisse Funeral Home in Port Washington.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation.

Special thanks to the team from Preceptor Home Health and Hospice and the Grafton Aurora nurses for their loving care of Sylvia.

Eernisse Funeral Home of Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
