Studelska is November artist of the month
Gina Studelska is the November Artist in Residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.
Family, faith, and nature are often entwined in Studelska’s art as she embodies the definition of mixed media artist, combining nature and the digital world with traditional techniques.
Eco printing with live botanicals onto fabric or paper, cyanotype, rust, wax, block printing, stitching, drawing and other techniques can be found in her work.
Studelska grew up in an unincorporated town in Wisconsin where she and her siblings spent much of their time outside painting their chins with dandelions, stringing catalpa flowers, planting marigolds, digging in sand, and collecting leaves, feathers and rocks.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and completed graduate work at Mount Mary and Cardinal Stritch universities, then spent 34 years as a certified art teacher.
Studelska will be at the center working on her art from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nov. 6, 8, 13, 15, 27 and 29.
She will also hold a workshop, Weaving Nature, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16. Participants will create a unique weaving stretched permanently onto a canvas. Most supplies are included but students are asked to bring a yarn needle and natural elements such as feathers, sticks, beads, special fabrics, yarns, ribbons, string, rope and paper they have found or collected to weave or tie onto the warp threads.
The fee is $45 for center members and $54 for nonmembers.
The center is at W62 N546 Washington Ave.
