Stations of Cross to be observed Wednesdays at St. Mary’s Church

The Stations of the Cross will be observed at St. Mary’s Church in Little Kohler at 7 p.m. Wednesdays through Lent beginning Feb. 24.

The Stations will be led by a member of the St. Mary’s Foundation, which bought the church from the Milwaukee Archdiocese in fall 2019 for $20,000 with the intention of preserving the building and using it as a historical and community center.

The church can no longer be used for any sanctioned Catholic rites such as Masses, baptisms, funerals, weddings or Stations of the Cross and cannot be celebrated by a Catholic priest.

The last Sunday Mass was held at the church in 2012. After that, the building was used for praying the rosary and saying the Stations of the Cross during Lent until it and St. Mary’s in Lake Church were both shuttered for good in August 2018.

The church dates to 1868, when it was dedicated to Mater Dolorosa, Our Mother of Sorrows. Its name was changed in 1915.
