State park offers events this weekend

The Jim and Gwen Plunkett Observatory near Puckett’s Pond at Harrington Beach State Park in the Town of Belgium will be open from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23.

Volunteers from the Northern Cross Science Foundation will help view the night sky through the big telescope, as well as from members’ telescopes. People are asked to park in the Puckett’s Pond parking lot or walk from the campground.

Master Naturalist Tom Lenz will direct children in activities from the Wisconsin Explorer books at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23.

The free books, appropriate for three different age levels, can be obtained at the office entrance station. People may also pick up maps and information on the park’s plants, birds and history.
