A star-spangled Fourth in Saukville

There were no fireworks or the traditional Fourth of July parade this year in Saukville, but the Landt-Thiel American Legion Post 470 and its Auxiliary members celebrated the nation’s founding with an impromptu parade from Rebel Field to Veterans Park downtown. The procession featured an 18-by-34-foot flag that originally flew over Allen-Edmonds in Port Washington. Helping carry the flag were (from left) Auxiliary members Nancy Plier, Barb Pierron, Paige Pierson and Margo Kraus.

Meanwhile, the Ozaukee County Historical Society marked the day by opening Pioneer Village on Highway I for the season. Volunteer Linda Ziebell greeted visitors while dressed in 19th-century garb. Pioneer Village is open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Photos by Sam Arendt
