Sidewalk installation continues
Sidewalk installation is continuing this week on Belgium’s Main Street reconstruction project.
Work is being done west of the railroad tracks, first on the north side of the street.
“Everything was going well this week so far,” Public Works Director Dan Birenbaum said.
Installation will continue into next week, he said. Once the north side is complete, crews will move to the south side.
People with disabilities who need help getting into their driveways should call the field office at (920) 323-6714.
Ozaukee County recently received a long-awaited permit from the Union Pacific Railroad to do storm sewer work under the crossing.
The plan now is for boring work to be done Oct. 1. By the time the storm sewer is installed, it could be mid-October, Birenbaum said.
The project’s initial completion date was Sept. 28.
During that work, one lane of traffic should be open at all times, Birenbaum said, although travelers remain encouraged to use the detour route. The route runs from Highway LL south to A, then to Highway 57 and back to Highway D.
