See how wooden shoes are made
Wooden shoe-making demonstrations and history will be featured at the Cedar Grove TeRonde House Museum Fall Open House from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
The klompenhouwer, or wooden shoe maker, is Luke Traver of Oostburg. His programs will be at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. followed by question-and-answer sessions. Traver will demonstrate carving techniques that have been used since the 1500s in the Netherlands. He uses only three primitive handmade tools and a wood vice.
Free gifts will be given to all children in attendance.
Also featured will be a recently donated set of Dutch dolls from the Netherlands meticulously dressed in costumes representing each of the 12 provinces in Holland.
Social distancing will be observed. Admission is free. The rain date is Oct. 11.
The house is at the corner of Union Avenue and Main Street in Cedar Grove.
