School club running shoe drive

A newly formed student group is already making a difference at Cedar Grove-Belgium High School.

Rockets For a Cause is holding a shoe drive this month for those in need of footwear.

New, gently worn or used shoes may be dropped off at the cafeteria during lunch. The group’s goal is 2,500 pounds of shoes.

The School Board approved the formation of the club last month.

The club already has more than 20 members and has dusted off trophies in the school’s trophy case, Supt. Elizabeth Freeman said.

District Library Media Specialist Mary Beth Desens is the club’s adviser.

“It was a push from the students. They came up with a list of things they would like to try to accomplish,” she said.

The group made and delivered Valentines to a local assisted living facility and have helped with child care during parent-teacher conferences.

“The goal of the group is to make a positive impact within our school, our community, and maybe even the world beyond,” Desens said.
