Saukville may be in store for a new restaurant

Saukville may be getting a new restaurant at the site of an old one.

Franksville resident Jennifer Halverson has purchased the former MJ’s Bar and Grill building at 100 S. Main St. and plans to open Tail Spin on Main there later this year.

Her application for a certificate of compliance was to be considered by the Village of Saukville Plan Commission Tuesday.

“We’re excited to bring a great bar menu, welcoming atmosphere and a fun neighborhood bar feel to the area,” Halverson said.

The Saukville eatery will be one of several Tail Spin restaurants in Wisconsin, “and each one has its own personality and vibe while still being part of the Tail Spin family,” she said.

The Tail Spin name has an unlikely inspiration.

“The name Tail Spin has special meaning to us,” Halverson said. “It comes from the old Dandelion Park in Muskego, where Tail Spin was the name of one of the roller coasters. We’ve carried that name forward as we’ve grown.”

The Saukville restaurant plans to serve burgers, sandwiches, wraps and salads ranging in price from $12 to $16 as well as appetizers.

It would be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays and employ two to three cooks and four to eight bartenders and servers, according to the compliance certificate application.

Halverson said she plans to do some work on the former MJ’s building and hopes to open on Oct. 1.

She said she chose Saukville for the next Tail Spin location because the small-town feel of the community fits well with her restaurant model.

“I wanted Tail Spin to be more than just another bar,” Halverson said. “I wanted it to be a place that becomes part of the community, a place where you know the people who walk through the door, families feel welcome, friends meet for dining or a drink and people can come together for local events, fundraisers, games and good times.

“As Tail Spin has grown, I’ve learned that every location doesn’t need to be exactly the same but it needs that family-like feel. Each community has its own personality, and I want Tail Spin on Main to reflect Saukville and the people who live here.”

MJ’s Bar and Grill, which opened in 2023, closed last year.
