Sandra Lee Monty

Sandra Lee Monty, 74, died of lung cancer Monday, Aug. 13, at her Grafton home.

Mrs. Monty was born in Manitowoc on Sept. 25, 1943, to Elmer and Jean Smith. She was a graduate of Port Washington High School.

Her family said she enjoyed the simple things in life and no matter the activity — from sitting in the backyard to dancing in her kitchen — her favorite moments were times spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her children said her favorite song was “I Did It My Way” by Elvis Presley.

“My mom always did everything her way,” her daughter Catherine Jagelovicz said.

Mrs. Monty is survived by her husband of 47 years Ronald Monty of Grafton; children Debra (Darrell) Dohrwardt of Saukville, Catherine (Mark) Jagelovicz of Sheboygan, Richard Sauer of Madison, Ohio, William Sauer of Saukville, Jean Sternig of Grafton and Ronda (Bill Zahnow) Monty of Adell; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by brothers Mark (Jane) Smith of Random Lake, Jeffrey (Jill) Smith and Chris (Karen) Smith, both of Port Washington; and special friend Kevin Houthuizen of Grafton.

She was preceded in death by her son Harold Sauer Jr., great-grandchild Taylor Dohrwardt, sister Victoria Smith, brother Richard Smith, sister-in-law Jill Smith, and her parents Elmer and Jean Smith.

Private services will be held.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society or Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin are suggested.

Mueller Funeral Home of Cedarburg is handling the arrangements.
