Saints lose in scoring fest, shutout

The Saukville Saints lost one game this weekend despite scoring nine runs and another by allowing nine while their bats went silent.

On Saturday, the Oakfield Oaks beat the Saints in Saukville, 16-9.

Two big innings hurt the Saints. The Oaks scored five in the first inning and seven in the fourth.

The Saints scored two runs in the second inning after loading the bases. Zach Plier singled, Aaron Brockmn walked and Case Verbanec was hit by a pitch. Simon Bares smacked a single to bring in both runs.

In the third inning, the Saints scored three times. Brian Hirschinger doubled and Steve Dickmann walked. Plier brought one run home with a double and Verbanec followed with a double to score two.

Plier added an RBI double in the ninth, and Verbanec had a two-RBI single.

Plier and Verbanec each had three hits.

Hirschinger started and in 3-2/3 innings allowed 12 runs (seven earned) and 11 hits while striking out two and walking four. Brockman relieved, allowing four runs (two earned) and four hits while striking out three and walking six in 5-1/3 innings.

On Sunday, the visiting Hartford Hawks beat the Saints, 9-0.

Hirschinger, Verbanec, Cole Bzdawka and Luis Dupe each had a hit for the Saints.

Bzdawka went the distance, allowing nine runs (seven earned) and 13 hits while striking out nine and walking five.

The Oaks and Hawks are 5-3 and tied for second place in the Rock River Northern Division.

The Saints, 1-5, play at Hustisford, 1-5, on Friday, June 19.
