Ruth C. Neumann

Ruth C. Neumann, 88, of Port Washington and formerly of Fredonia and Cedarburg, died Thursday, Oct. 4, at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.

Ms. Neumann was born on Aug. 26,1930, to Fary and Meta Schroeder Sauer.  She grew up in Port Washington and graduated from Port Washington High School in 1948.  

Ruth married Raymond Yankunas in August of 1949, and the couple had five children. She was a homemaker and later worked at Smith Brothers Restaurant.

Ms. Neumann was involved with her children and grandchildren in Girl Scouts, 4-H Club, Sunday school and Christmas pageants at St. John Lutheran Church in Port Washington.

Her family said she enjoyed crocheting and donated more than 1,000 hats to hospitals for newborns and homeless shelters.  Ms. Neumann also enjoyed reading, playing bingo, spending time with her family, and loved watching the Green Bay Packers.  

Ms. Neumann is survived by her children Donna (Rev. Robert) Braband of Lombard, Ill., Sharon Yankunas of Fredonia, Douglas (Marcia) of Kenosha, David of Fredonia and Stacy (Rob) Yankunas of Cedarburg.  

She is further survived by her grandchildren Ashleigh (Jake) Vnuk, Mike (Heather) Ackeret, Dawn Yankunas, Douglas (Stephanie) Yankunas Jr., Amanda (Patrick) McCartney, Jeremy (Gin) Braband, Darin (Deanna) Yankunas, Kim (Mike) Priaulx, Ami (James) Weeks, Rachel Braband (Cameron), Paige Schommer, Gracie Yankunas, Jackie (Sul) Bashabsheh; 23 great-grandchildren; brother William Sauer, and sisters-in-law Mary Sauer and Helen Sauer.

Ms. Neumann was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harold Sauer, grandson Adam Braband, daughter-in-law Gwen Yankunas, nephew Harold Sauer Jr. and first husband Raymond Yankunas.

A celebration of life will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Petter Wollner American Legion Post 288 in Cedarburg. There will be a short service at 4:30 p.m.

Poole Funeral Home, Port Washington, is handling the arrangements.
