Random Lake/Ozaukee’s boys’ soccer team is heading into the playoffs on a season-high five-game winning streak and an above-.500 record.

RLO won at Stockbridge, 6-0, on Oct. 12, then beat Eastbrook Academy at home in the rain, 3-2, last Thursday.

Against Stockbridge, Jacob Kopiness had three goals, Joey Pierce had two and Jaxon Klas had one. Pierce, Klas and Johanni Altamirano-Diaz each had an assist.

Last Thursday, Max Klaus scored twice and Jayce Yang once in rain and 50-degree temperatures.

“This was one of those games that I think the boys will remember forever. Conditions were as bad as you could get before actually canceling the game,” coach Matt Wilson said.

RLO reached its season goal of finishing above .500. Random Lake hadn’t done so since 2015, and Ozaukee hadn’t done it since the early 2000s, Wilson said.

RLO (10-7-1) plays at No. 6 University School of Milwaukee in the playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Held has senior night to remember

Cedar Grove-Belgium celebrated senior night on Oct. 13 with an 11-0 win over Kewaunee.

Seniors Parker Held, Ethan Brandt, Mickey Jensen and Karl Engevold were honored.

Held scored three times while only taking three shots. Colton Eischen also had a hat trick and two assists. Griffin Posthuma and Armando Castellon each scored twice, and Adrian Perez scored once. Myles Posthuma posted his first shutout of the season.

Last Thursday, Oostburg invited the Rockets for a friendly match after Oostburg’s Saturday game was canceled. Three starting Rockets were injured in the 4-1 loss.

“My learning moment as a coach would have been to stop the game earlier after the first unnecessary challenge from behind,” Krechel said.

The Rockets (4-13) play at No. 4 Racine St. Catherine’s in the playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Grafton gets shut out twice

Grafton lost at home to Cedarburg, 2-0, on Oct. 13, and closed the regular season with a 4-0 loss to Shorewood in the rain.

“Shorewood was a strange game in some pretty rough conditions, but I liked how our starting 11 competed and played. We did well, moving the ball side to side and finding spots to attack,” coach James Johnson said.

Grafton (3-11-1) plays at Oostburg in the playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Port wins 2 to get above .500

Port Washington won, 3-1, at Kewaskum on Oct. 13 and 1-0 vs. Sheboygan South last Thursday.

Gracen Chapman, Tyson Blum and Bennett Walter scored against Kewaskum. Grady Rorabeck, Scotty Bennett and Kalin Mundt had assists.

Keegan McGivern with an assist from Bennett scored against Sheboygan South, and coach Mark Burmesch said keeper Landon Lindner made a “terrific one-on-one save” late in the game.

Port (8-6-2) hosts Denmark in the playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 22.
