Riveredge to offer April guided tours, programs
Riveredge Nature Center in the Town of Saukville is hosting a variety of events in the coming weeks, including the start of its Stroll with a Naturalist series.
The series — a guided group hike to highlight seasonal flora and fauna with the opportunity to ask questions of a Riveredge naturalist — will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on alternating Thursdays starting April 9.
The April 9 stroll follows the theme “What’s Popping Up?” and the April 23 hike’s theme is “Frog Chorus.”
The events are free and intended for people 18 and older. Advance registration is requested at https://tinyurl.com/bdfuxzer.
“Bumble Bee Queens, Nests and Spring Wildflowers” will be discussed by Jeff Karron, a professor of biology emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16.
Karron’s talk will feature slow-motion videography to highlight the interdependence of bumble bee queens and spring-flowering perennial plants.
Karron is internationally known for his research on the ecology of plant-pollinator interactions, bumble bee behavior, and the conservation of endangered plants.
