Riveredge to host activities for all ages

A variety of programs are being held at Riveredge Nature Center in the Town of Saukville during the coming weeks.

Snow-related fun and stories with members of Bookworm Gardens in Sheboygan will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.

Children ages 2 to 12 will enjoy outdoor play times followed by winter-themed stories for children to read and be read to.

Hot chocolate and tea will be served.

The fee is $5 for All-Access members, $8 for Trail Pass members and $10 for nonmembers.

The Community Rivers Program will hold free winter hikes near the Milwaukee River for members of participating communities during January.

Fredonia residents are invited to the 1 to 2:30 p.m. hike Sunday, Jan. 29, at Waubedonia Park.

“Growing Green: Native Landscaping Design for the Novice” will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 4.

Riveredge’s Conservation Department members will teach different principles of native landscape design and provide a broad selection of plant profiles and attributes. Participants may then create a design for their yard with one-on-one help, leaving the program with a rough map and layout, a list of plants, trees and shrubs as well as a budget and timeline to get the design started.

The fee is $30 for All-Access household members, $35 for Trail Pass household members and $40 for nonmembers.

A Memory Cafe for people with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month.

The program provides an opportunity for participants with dementia or other cognitive changes to safely get outside, interact socially and try fun, approachable activities around a nature-based theme.

To register someone for the Memory Cafe, contact Sarah at the Ozaukee County Aging and Disabilities Resource Center at (262) 284-8120 or sprohuska@co.ozaukee.wi.us.

Night ski, snowshoe and candlelit hikes will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 20 and 27.

“Hook-ology: Why Not Fly Knot?” will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.

The Little Explorers group will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26.
