Registrations being taken for kayaking, cooking classes

The Grafton Parks and Recreation Department is offering classes on having fun in the water and the kitchen this month.

Kayak Kickstart will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Veterans Memorial Park.

Participants ages 16 and older will be introduced to basic padding skills, learn the different kinds of kayaks, proper paddle attire, how to enter and exit a kayak and what to do if they fall in the water.

People are encouraged to bring their own gear and kayak but equipment is available.

The cost is $60. Silent Wake, LLC, will provide instruction.

Children ages 12 to 17 will be taught how to cook through a virtual program from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21.

An ingredient supply list will be provided when participants are registered, and a Zoom link will be sent before the class starts.

Instructor Mark Slaminski will teach participants how to make spaghetti and meatballs, garlic cheese bread and dessert.

The cost is $5 for Village of Grafton residents and $6 for nonresidents. Space is limited.

To register for either class, visit or call the department at 375-5310.
