With April 6 spring general election ballots having been tallied and certified, Fredonia Village Clerk-Treasurer Sandi Tretow swore in re-elected trustees to new two-year terms at the Village Board’s annual organizational meeting April 22.

Taking oaths of office were Village President Don Dohrwardt and trustees Bill McLarty, Daniel Gerhke and John Long, whose terms all expire in April 2023.

The terms of trustees Jill Bertram, Richard Abegglen and Joshua Haas expire next April.

On Dohrwardt’s recommendation, trustees last week approved continuing the village’s slate of committee appointments:

• Board of Appeals — Ron Weyker (chairman, 2022), Wally Quade (2023), John Donald (2023) and Jeff Rodgers (2023). There is one vacant seat on the Board of Appeals for a term expiring in 2022.

• Planning Commission — Don Dohrwardt (chairman, 2023), Scot Roberts (2023), Gerald Weiland (2022), Gene Mayer (2023), Rudy McCormick (2023), John Long (2022), and Dan Wellskopf (2023). Roger Strohm serves as adviser.

• Architectural Control Board — John Long (chairman, 2023), Rudy McCormick (2023), Damon Ward (2022), Bob Lallensack (2023), Tom Miller (2022) and Mike Bertram (alternate, 2023). Administrative Assistant Tretow serves as an alternate. Village Building Inspector John Derler attends meetings in his official capacity, not as a voting member.

• Election Commission (terms expiring December 2021) — Barbara Eisentraut, Jacquelyn Plier, Jerry Shoemaker, Jo Ann Wagner, Joan Steffen, Judy Ruppel, Karen Wiebe, Kathy Shoemaker, Kristine Skorbier, Linda Georgeson, Margie Lallensack, Mary Biever, Sandy Mayer and Fern Rathsack.

In other news April 22, trustees approved sending a rezoning request from Glenbeaulah-based Hillcrest Fredonia, LLC to the Planning Commission for review and recommendation.

Village Trustee Daniel Gehrke, a Hillcrest employee, abstained from the vote due to a conflict of interest.

Hillcrest is looking to rezone land currently zoned A-1 general agricultural/holding district (1.39 acres) and RS-2 single family residential district (0.83 acres) to the village’s newly-adopted RC-2 two-unit condominium residential district to allow the development and construction of six duplex condominium buildings, encompassing 12 units total on an extension of Deer Meadow Drive.

The proposed condominium units would range from 1,400 to 1,600 square feet with full basements and an attached two-car garage. It is likely that some owners will choose to have partially finished basements.
