Raymond Sheldon Schicker

Raymond Sheldon Schicker, formerly of West Bend, Wis., passed away due to complications of cancer on March 31, 2024, at the age of 67 surrounded by his family.
Ray was born in Port Washington, Wis., to Albert Sr. and Agnes Schicker on Oct. 29, 1956.
Ray married the love of his life, Kari Modjewski, on June 10, 1978, and they raised three children together. Kari and Ray were about to celebrate 46 years of marriage.
If you were blessed to meet Ray, then you know how he lit up a room just by walking into it. Ray was a fun guy with a very quick-witted personality. He had a way of connecting with everyone and making you laugh, whether he was quoting movie lines, catching you off guard with a funny joke or fooling you with a magic trick. You couldn’t help but love Ray.
Ray was a maintenance technician by trade. He worked at Amcast for almost 30 years and was very active in the GMP Local 185 union. Ray later retired from Community Care, where he also was a maintenance technician.
Ray was a jack of all trades. He knew how to build, remodel, rewire, repurpose and fix almost anything you could think of. If any of his family or friends had a question about plumbing, electricity, cars, landscaping, gardening or everything in between, Ray would have the answer, and it wasn’t unlike him to come over and lend a helping hand.
Ray was an incredibly hardworking man, but he also knew it was important to enjoy life. Ray enjoyed camping with his family and telling stories in his deep voice around a campfire. Ray loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with Kari on their boat fishing with their children and grandchildren. Ray loved a good Wisconsin fall hunting season, and for many years he would travel north with his children and grandchildren for their annual deer camp.
If you were lucky, you would have at one point or another heard Ray sing, and it was probably an Elvis Presley song. Whether it was back in the day when he was an Elvis tribute performer, singing karaoke or simply being near him around the house and yard, Ray would be humming or start singing verses from a song in his deep, soothing voice and you knew God gave him the gift of song. Ray was passionate about many things, but one passion he had from the moment he first heard him was Elvis Presley and his music. Ray even got to see Elvis live in Milwaukee when he was a teenager. Ray was a devoted fan and people loved hearing him sing his music. Many of his kid’s friends referenced Ray as “Relvis,” and he smiled pretty big about that.
After Ray and Kari retired, they decided to take the adventure of a lifetime and head south to warmer weather but would travel around in their RV to see their family.
Ray was a force to be reckoned with, always up for an adventure and always making you laugh or smile. He took a huge part of our hearts with him, but we know we’ll see him again.
Those Ray leaves behind are his wife Kari; children Ryan (Jennifer), Brent (Janel), and Tanya (Jason); grandchildren Hunter, Haiden, Hailey, Kira, Jazlynn, Finlee and Brody; sisters Joan Irving, Sandy Setzke and Sally Galdins; brothers Dave (Lynne) Schicker and Bob (Luanne) Schicker; and many other friends and family members.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Albert Sr. and Agnes Schicker, brothers Albert Jr. “Chippy” Schicker and Ronald Schicker and in-laws Tom and Karen Modjewski, Joan Schicker, Ray Irving, Norman Setzke and Pete Galdins.
No funeral services are planned.
