Rain doesn’t dampen work on Main Street
Crews working on the second phase of the Main Street reconstruction project in the Village of Belgium were expected to pour concrete curbs on Friday.
This week, they were prepping the area west of the railroad crossing, Director of Public Works Dan Birenbaum said.
He encourages travelers to continue to use the detour route.
The route runs from Highway LL south to A, then to Highway 57 and back to Highway D.
The recent heavy rains, he said, did not impact the project.
“It was dry enough, I think, that everything soaked into the ground,” he said.
Ozaukee County is still awaiting approval of a permit from the Union Pacific Railroad to extend storm sewer under the crossing.
The project is slated to be completed Sept. 28.
The next public information meeting about the project will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at Village Hall, 104 Peter Thein Ave.
