A positive sign for Belgium residents

In response to residents’ requests, the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office put up a portable speed sign in Belgium facing north on Highway KW to slow traffic coming into town. Residents had expressed concerns over the safety of children biking across Highway KW given many in the area have observed drivers, especially trucks, not slowing down as they enter the village. Lt. Wayne Lambrecht said the office will be moving the sign soon to do other studies in the county but will put it back to complete Belgium’s study. The office has also increased patrolling in the area. “I have gotten reports from deputies saying that citizens are approaching them and thanking them for what they are doing,” he said. Lambrecht said he hopes to have a new pole-mounted temporary speed display board mounted on a speed limit sign on Main Street within a couple of weeks. “I think the display board will have a positive impact and make drivers more aware of the speeds they are traveling,” he said.
