Port students join legion of volunteers to help feed starving children

Four-hundred-fifty volunteers, including students from St. John XXIII Catholic School in Port Washington, worked in two-hour shifts on Nov. 7 and 8 to pack 101,000 meals that will be distributed to needy people in the developing world during a Feed My Starving Children event at Portal Inc. in Grafton. Concentrating as they mixed the various components of the meal were students (above, from left) John Sepanic, Fiona Didier, Gretta Lanser, Olivia Lorier and Liam Stewart. Maryfer Serrano-Tamez (right) smiled broadly as he showed off a box of meals the students packed. Feed My Starving Children is a nonprofit organization that empowers volunteers to pack meals for malnourished people in nearly 70 countries.                 Photos by Sam Arendt
