Port splashes to 5th place at invitational

The Port Washington High School boys’ swimming team placed fifth out of seven squads in the Manitowoc Invitational last Saturday.

The Pirates scored 214 points, just ahead of Kiel.

Beloit won the team title with 481 points, and Janesville Parker was second with 431.

Port sophomore Alex Sharbuno placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 42.67 seconds, and sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:30.69).

Among the Pirates’ other individual finishes, sophomore Neil Tumey took fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.43), and junior Wyatt Roller was sixth in the 50 freestyle (25.16) and 100 freestyle (55.3).

The Pirates’ 200 freestyle relay of Roller, Shane McConahy, Tumey and Sharbuno placed sixth  (1:42.32), and the 200 medley relay of Tumey, Chase Orvis, Sharbuno and Roller was seventh (1:59.26).

The 400 freestyle relay of Joe Huebner, Peter Meier, Mavrick Roller and McConahy was ninth (3:59.69).

McConahy finished ninth in the 50 freestyle (25.94) and 100 freestyle (56.74), and Orvis was ninth in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.65).

The Pirates will travel to Whitefish Bay on Thursday, Jan. 17, for a North Shore Conference dual meet and host Homestead in another NSC meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24.
