Port Washington’s holiday activities will kick off Saturday, Dec. 5, with the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree at 6 p.m.

The tree at the foot of St. Mary’s Hill will be lighted by Mayla Pleitner, the daughter of Ald. Jonathan Pleitner and his wife Mikala, who turns 4 that day, Mayor Marty Becker announced Tuesday.

“To have someone do this on their birthday is really special,” Becker said of Saturday’s festivities. “This will be fun.”

Saturday is also the first day of the city’s Santa in a Snow Globe event in Upper Lake Park.

Santa will be in an eight-foot snow globe on Saturdays, Dec. 5, 12 and 19, and youngsters will be able to pose with him and give him high fives.

Visual Image Photography of Cedarburg will take photos of the youngsters that families can download and print.

The photos will be available within a week of the visit.

While youngsters won’t be able to tell Santa what’s on their gift lists, they will be able to drop off letters to him at a special mailbox at the park.

Hot chocolate will be sold from 4 to 7 p.m. each Saturday.

Families need to register for a time slot — at 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 6 p.m. A limited number of people will be accepted for each time period.

There are still a few time slots open for each of the days, Ald. John Sigwart noted.

There is no fee, but donations will be accepted.
