Port High School earns speech, debate honor

Port Washington High School’s chapter of the National Speech & Debate Association recently received a 2024-2025 Leading Chapter Award. 

The award recognizes one school from more than 100 competition districts for outstanding student participation in speech and debate. 

From more than 4,000 member schools across the country, the Leading Chapters represent the top 3% of speech and debate schools in the national association. 

“Leading Chapters go above and beyond to advance speech and debate in their school and empower their students to use their voice,” Executive Director J. Scott Wunn said. “These schools understand the life-changing benefits of this activity and serve as an inspiration to speech and debate teams across the country.”

Leading Chapters have the highest number of accumulated members and degrees in the NSDA Honor Society. Schools must have previously achieved Charter School Status. They must wait at least five years to be eligible for the award again.
