Port football rolls on

Jack Bunyan connected on 77% of his passes, Kade Kintop averaged nearly 40 yards a catch and the Port Washington High School football team breezed past visiting Nicolet last Friday, 46-8.

“It was kind of incredible. We scored 30 points with eight plays,” coach John Bunyan said.

Jack Bunyan, the coach’s son, went 10-for-13 for 247 yards and five touchdowns and was one of many starters pulled early. Kintop had five catches for 196 yards and three scores, along with a two-point conversion.

Bunyan is given a play but can make adjustments at the line of scrimmage in the Pirates’ no-huddle attack.

“They’re reading the defense and taking what they’re given and they’re communicating presnap,” coach Bunyan said.

For the season, Jack Bunyan is 58-for-83 passing (70%) for 1,103 yards with 14 touchdowns and two interceptions, leading the state in passing yards and touchdowns. Kintop has 22 catches for a state-leading 498 yards and six touchdowns.

For the second time in three games, Port’s offensive line didn’t allow a sack and was able to keep up in the high-paced offense.

“We don’t do conditioning. We run our offense,” Bunyan said.

Mason Schwanz ran six times for 39 yards and a score. Max Zillman ran seven times for 39 yards. Aedyn Brownmiller had a 19-yard touchdown catch, and Lincoln Wood caught a seven-yard touchdown.

The defense held the Knights to 76 total yards. Bunyan singled out defensive end ThiLar Goodman and linebacker Austin Knapp for their play.

“We’ve got some really good speed and some aggressive guys up front. I love our athleticism on both sides of the ball right now,” he said.

Kintop and Tallen Pennell each made an interception. Kiya Sullivan recovered a fumble. Max Tatarek’s only punt netted 47 yards.

Port also had a season-low three penalties.

Port, 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Glacier Trails Conference, plays at 1-2 Kewaskum on Friday, Sept. 11.
