Port’s downtown Christmas celebration draws a crowd

The steeple of St. John XXIII Parish’s St. Mary’s Church provided a picturesque backdrop as students from St. John XXIII School marched in Port Washington's Christmas parade last weekend.
The holiday season got off to a rousing start in d
owntown Port Washington Saturday with the annual Christmas on the Corner celebration, which included merchant sales, children’s activities, live reindeer, caroling, a tree lighting, parade and fireworks. Unlike last year, when activities were cancelled due to a cold, driving rain, this year the weather was ideal С crisp and seasonal. Krystiana, 12, and Arianna, 6, Vandenheuvel posed with the star of the show, Santa Claus (above). One of the main attractions was the live reindeer from Reindeer Games of Erin, including Holly. A group of carolers sang in the parade.
The city’s Christmas tree at the foot of St. Mary’s Hill was a fitting backdrop for the crowd.
