Plein air painter is new center artist of the month

Plein air painter and pastel artist Audrey Dulmes is the January artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Dulmes earned her bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1970 and taught elementary school art for several years before setting out on a different course.

She began participating in workshops with accomplished and inspirational artists,  studying with the late James Prohl, Albert Handell, Ian Roberts and others.

Dulmes paints in oils and pastels and especially enjoys plein air painting.

“The landscape calls to me.  The entire experience captivates all my senses, and I hope to convey that connection to the viewer,” she said. “Color and light are my passions and they continually change, making the painting experience exhilarating.”

Her work has been exhibited at the Plymouth Arts Center, the Gallery of Wisconsin Art in West Bend and Two Fish Gallery in Elkhart Lake.

She is a member of the Pastel Society of America, Chicago Pastel Painters, Wisconsin Visual Artists and Wisconsin Plein Air Painters.

Dulmes demonstrates her painting process at the center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.

She will also hold a workshop for beginners, “The Joys of Pastel,” from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.  Students will learn how to transform a photograph into an expressive landscape painting working with watercolors and soft pastels.

All supplies included, but students should bring a photograph to work from.

The fee is $42 for center members and $52 for non-members.

For more information or to register, visit cedarburgculturalcenter.org or call 375-3676.

The center is at W62 N546 Washington Ave.
