Pickleball, welding to be taught in Port

Pickleball and welding are among the August offerings by the Port Washington Parks and Recreation Department.

An intro to pickleball class will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursdays from Aug. 7 to Sept. 11.

The class, which will be held at Kolbach Park, will teach the basics of the game to people 16 and older.

Balls and paddles will be provided.

An introduction to welding workshop will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 5 to 7 in the Port Washington High School CAD and Metals Fabrication Labs.

Participants ages 18 and older will learn welding basics. The focus will be on metal inert gas welding, but other processes will be discussed.

Other topics covered include weld shop safety, project design and planning and weld machine selection.

During the sessions, time will be split between weld demonstrations and individual practice time in individual booths so participants can practice different weld joints on different thicknesses of steel.

At the end of the course, participants will fabricate and weld their own small fire pit with pieces cut on a CNC plasma table. They will have the option of cutting their name or a simple design into the project, which they will take home.

No experience is necessary for the class, which is aimed at those looking at welding from a hobbyist or casual user point of view.
