Phillip “Toby” Dimmer

Phillip “Toby” Dimmer, age 89, of Cedarburg, Wis., passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, at Village Pointe Commons. 

He was born on March 25, 1936, in Green Bay, Wis., to Joe Dimmer and Caroline Rasmussen. 

He grew up in Denmark, Wis., and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, obtaining a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and physical education. 

On June 3, 1962, he married Pat Reichmann of Wauzeka, Wis. 

He pursued graduate education at the University of Southern Illinois, University of Utah, University of Michigan and Ohio State University. 

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Cedarburg and treasured his church community, volunteering for many years as an usher.

  Phil loved music, dancing with Pat and playing cards, including cribbage. 

He was a great tutor and often helped people with their math anxiety. He graded the math portion of the ACT college admissions test and pioneered the Advanced Placement calculus program at Homestead High School in Mequon. 

After retiring, he taught calculus for many years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and his class always had a long waiting list. 

He excelled at sports and coached football, track and softball, even coaching grandchildren of some of his original athletes. He also officiated high school sports for many years. He loved the Packers, Badgers and Homestead Highlanders. 

He and Pat also bought a small hobby farm in Boscobel, Wis., and built a log home, which they visited often.

He is survived by his beloved wife Pat Dimmer, his daughter Cheryl Zuccaro (Anthony Zuccaro) and son Doug Dimmer (Andrea Albrecht-Dimmer). He was beloved by his grandchildren Dominic, Olivia, Sophia, Grace, Vincent, Clea and Caroline. 

A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave, Cedarburg, WI, 53012.
