Peter Jay ‘Pete’ Gilbertson

Peter Jay ‘Pete’ Gilbertson, age 70, of Saukville passed away on March 5, 2025, at his home with his family close by.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1954, in Buffalo, Minn., to Jerry and Kay (Williams) Gilbertson.
On Jan. 26, 1974, Peter married Debra Otis in Houston, Minn., and together they had two children.
Pete took great pride in maintaining a meticulously manicured lawn and keeping his vehicles spotless. While outside, he would always take the time to talk with neighbors. He was often found in the kitchen preparing meals for his family. Pete’s motto was “make it an adventure,” whether he would be running to the grocery store or on a family vacation. He had a passion for boats and, at one point, worked on restoring a wooden Century Boat. Many of Pete’s best days were spent with friends and family on Long Lake boating, skiing and tubing.
He retired as a machinist in 2017.
Pete was incredibly proud of his involvement with Possibility Playground in Port Washington. Alongside his buddies, lovingly known as O.C.D. — Old Curmudgeon Development — he helped build the miniature band shell, which continues to bring joy to children every day.
Pete also enjoyed his weekly visits to McDonald’s with his Wednesday morning coffee group.
Peter is survived by his wife Debra; his children Nicholas (Cristal) Gilbertson of Cedar Grove, Wis., and Tera (Eric) Rogers of Saukville, Wis.; grandchildren Blake (Loden) DeSwarte, Ethan DeSwarte, Joseph Gilbertson and Jennings and Harrison Rogers; and many nieces, including Amber (Bobby) Zunac; nephews; relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, and his in-laws Donald and Myrtle Otis.
A memorial service will be held on March 29, 2025, at Living Hope Lutheran Church, 851 W. Dekora St., Saukville, with Pastor Daniel Flucke officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:15 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Donations may be made in Peter’s name to the Wisconsin Humane Society Ozaukee Campus or Living Hope Lutheran Church, Saukville.
The family extends its sincere thanks to Horizon Homecare and Hospice for the compassionate care and support they provided Peter and his family.
