Penelope Winter

Penelope J. Winter “Penny” (nee Hardt), of Port Washington, passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at her residence.

She was the beloved wife of Mark Twarogowski; beloved mother of Mary Winter, Melissa (Patrick) Erickson, Melinda Winter and Mark Winter; beloved grandmother “Nanny” of Katryna (Guesippie) DéLeon, Ashley (Kyle) Ferguson, Henry Erickson and Tyler Winter-Vogley; beloved great-grandmother of Priscylla, Ricardo, and Penelope DéLeon and Rita Ferguson; sister of Marguerite Hardt.

Penny had a love of art, gardening, travel, music, dancing, and socializing. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her family.

She was a loving mother of four and could be found baking cookies or leading Scouts when her children were young. Penny allowed her inner child to shine and could often be found with her grandchildren and great grandchildren on the slip and slide, hunting for sea glass at the beach and making her famous dirt cakes.

She was also the voice of wisdom and encouragement to her friends and family; always supportive as they pursued their many passions.

Penny was an award-winning artist who was a member of several art guilds throughout her life including Cedarburg Artists Guild, Museum of Wisconsin Art, Green Bay Arts Unlimited, and even co-founded the Port Washington Artists Guild. Her artwork has been on display in numerous art shows through the years at Heritage Hill State Park, boutiques, galleries and studios.

Penny also valued the importance of sharing her artistic gift by volunteering as an art teacher with 4-H, the Hartford Recreation Department, and The Sands Nursing Facility.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marguerite (nee Seaman) Hardt and her sister Priscilla.

In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-9959
