Patchwork artist’s works featured at quilt museum

An exhibit of quilts by Madison-based quilter Doreen Speckmann will open Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilting and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg.

The show features 25 years of quilts displayed together for the first time since Speckmannr’s death in 1999.

Speckmann was known for her wit and wisdom, which she shared widely through her how-to books, quilting cruises and international quilt tours.

In 1985, as a relative newcomer to the quilting scene, her innovative quilt, The Blade, won the professional patchwork category at the first American Quilters’ Society national quilting competition in Paducah, Ky.

The exhibit runs through Jan. 31.

The museum is at N50 W5050 Portland Rd.

It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, through Saturdays and from noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
