Pan loses heartbreaker

Grafton High School junior Michael Pan’s third trip to the Division 2 state tennis tournament in Madison didn’t go as he had hoped.

Pan earned a 2 seed and got a bye, then split the first two sets against Tegan Scott of Aquinas, 6-3, 3-6.

Scott edged Pan in the tiebreaker, 10-8.

“I felt I could’ve played the match better. The heat definitely caught me off guard and slowed me down,” Pan said.

It closed a season full of highs.

“The season was the best so far, having the best record, and our team had many more games won,” Pan said.

Pan finished 23-3. The Black Hawks went 7-14.

Pan lost his first-round state match as a freshman and last year won his first match at state before losing his second.
