Painter is center’s artist of the month
Painter Jeanne Bril is the March artist in residence at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.
Bril, who attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and taught art for 26 years, earned a graduate degree in art from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
She spent several years renting studio space at Material Studio and Gallery in Milwaukee’s Third Ward and has embraced painting landscapes, both rural and urban, and had participated in several Plein Air events.
Bril’s goals are to keep learning and challenging herself. Recently she finished a two-week art residency in France.
She will demonstrate her art from noon to 3 p.m. March 2; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 4; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 8; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 11; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 15; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 20 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 27.
Bril will also teach “Pastel Painting with Purpose and Exploration” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25.
Participants will develop a purpose and consider what they want to communicate in their art, then practice techniques that support that purpose.
The class is both an introduction to pastel and an overview on creating artwork. Bril will address choosing a scene, under painting, using different surfaces, mark making and adding light to create interest and drama.
The fee is $58 for center members and $70 for nonmembers. Participants should bring a 9-by-12-inch sketchbook, a photograph or print of a scene to paint and any pastels or paper they prefer to use.

The center at W62 N546 Washington Ave. is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
