Pace Industries to lay off 90 employees at Grafton facility due to lost work

Due to a “loss of production work,” Pace Industries announced plans to lay off as many as 90 employees at its Grafton location starting June 15 or within the following 14 days, CEO Doug Albert wrote in a letter to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development earlier this month.

By law, companies must notify the WDWD with a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Letter if more than 25% of the staff at a facility are being laid off, which Pace plans to do at its facility located at 1600 Seventh Ave.

Pace plans to begin by releasing 44 employees with subsequent layoffs to occur in stages, the letter states.

Albert wrote the affected employees are not represented by a union and therefore do not have “bumping rights,” meaning a right for senior employees to take the position of less senior employees during lay-offs.

The layoffs, he wrote, are expected to be permanent.

Pace is one of the largest metal die-casting companies in North America with 18 manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and Mexico, according to its website.

It is headquartered in Michigan, the website states.
