Ozaukee is firing up its softball program with hopes to stay
Former college softball player and youth coach Julia Schueller is restarting Ozaukee High School’s softball program.
The team has 11 girls this season and is playing a mixed varsity and junior varsity schedule.
It has been three years since the program played a competitive game.
Chloe Majeski and Kenedeigh Harness are the pitchers.
Majeski, Alegra Krenek and Elenor Lenz are the catchers.
Brynn Mayer is at third base. Krenek is at shortstop. Paige Rodgers is at second base and Liz Majeski is at first.
Outfielders include Melissa Parisey, Kylie Cox, Emma VanMinsel and Khloe Johnson.
The team has two seniors, Lenz and Parisey. Most of the squad is made up of freshmen.
Schueller runs the youth program with teams of 10 and 12-year-olds through the Ozaukee Warrior Softball Baseball Association. She has daughters in seventh, fifth and second grade all interested in softball.
“I worked hard to try to get this program going. I reached out a lot to these girls. They knew that it was a build-up program,” she said.
Schueller played shortstop at first base at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon.
“It just takes a lot of skill to throw, catch, hit, to know situations. It’s just a fun game. I’ve just always loved it and the competitiveness that can come along with it. The fast-pitch, that’s a skill in itself,” she said.
She likes what she sees from the team so far.
“I think they have a never-give-up and a win-focused attitude,” Schueller said.
The Warriors’ first varsity game with Cedar Grove-Belgium was rained out last Thursday. They open varsity play at Oostburg on Thursday, April 23.
