Ozaukee boys, girls win three of four

The Ozaukee High School boys’ basketball team split a pair of games last week.

The Warriors earned a 55-34 win over visiting Milwaukee School of Languages Dec. 19 in a non-conference game.

On Thursday, Ozaukee fell short in a 62-55 loss to visiting Hilbert in a Big East Conference contest.

Ozaukee’s stats were not available at press time for the Hilbert game, but the Warriors trailed by five at halftime, 25-20.

Adam Diedrich scored 33 for the Wolves. Grant Propson added 17 and Karson Krueger had 10 points.

Against Milwaukee School of Languages, the Warriors outscored their opponent by at least 10 points in each half.

At the break, Ozaukee led, 31-20.

Noah Miller led the Warriors with 17 points. Brent Hoffmann added 14. Simon Bares had one of his best offensive games of the season with nine points.

Damian Woods and Isayah Hammond led the visitors with 11 points each.

The Warriors stand at 4-4 overall and 3-3 in league play.

Following the Christmas break, Ozaukee will return to action Jan. 4 when Montello comes to Fredonia for a non-conference game.

Ozaukee girls win a pair of games

The Ozaukee girls earned two victories last week with strong play.

On Friday, the Warriors earned a 62-51 Big East win over visiting St. Mary Central.

“We really have been working on rebounding in practice, and the girls really responded with a decent rebounding game,” Ozaukee coach Tim Wolff said.

Abby Miller played strong in the middle and led the Warriors with 10 rebounds.

“We knew they were going to be a tough opponent. They were 6-2 with some nice wins,” Wolff said.

“The game was really of back and forth, and it kind of seemed like we couldn’t get over the hump. Then we went on a 9-0 run and were able to walk away with the win.”

The Warriors trailed by three at the half, 31-28.

“I’m proud of the effort the girls gave. I’m proud of how the seniors stepped up and each contributed in their own way,” Wolff said.

Gabby Klas and Becca Schauer led the Warriors with 15 points each, and both grabbed five rebounds. Schauer added six steals.

“I can’t say enough about how Gabby Klas looks very comfortable out there, being only a freshman,” Wolff said.

St. Mary Central was led by Anna Zelinski with 19 points and Sydney Anderson with 11.

On Dec. 17, the Warriors posted a 67-50 win at Lomira in a non-conference contest.

The Warriors had a big first half and took a 37-24 lead into the break.

Schauer had a hot hand for the entire game, scoring 34 points. Her total included three three-pointers and a 9-for-11 effort from the free-throw line.

She also had eight steals, five assists and four rebounds.

Greta Klas scored 15 points and her sister Gabby finished with eight. Abby Miller pulled down 10 rebounds.

Lomira was led by Crystal Geiger with 15 points and Kailin Brath with 11.

The Warriors climbed to 7-3 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

Following the Christmas break, Ozaukee hosts Port Washington on Jan. 3 for a nonconference game.
