Orchids are topic for April 28 presentation

Orchids will be the topic when the Fredonia Area Garden Club meets at 6 p.m. Monday, April 28.

The free presentation is open to the public.

Longtime Port Washington gardener and orchid expert Tom Hudson, a software engineer who got the gardening bug, will be the speaker.

Hudson has more than 50 orchid plants of various types, many of which are over 20 years old.

He will talk about the kinds of orchids that do well in homes and how to take care of them for the best chance of success.

He will also address common orchid types, how and when to perform important tasks such as repotting plants, potting mediums, monitoring for pests and culture and disease problems.
