Open house is set at Sugar Maple School

Sugar Maple Nature School will host an open house extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

The event will open at 9 a.m., with a cleanup of the Milwaukee River at Hawthorne Hills Park in the Town of Saukville.

In partnership with Milwaukee Riverkeepers, volunteers will  remove trash and debris from the riverbanks near the school, which is on the park grounds. All cleanup supplies will be provided.

Those attending may tour the school, including the classrooms and outdoor learning spaces, beginning at 11 a.m.

Staff members will be on hand to answer questions about enrollment, curriculum and the school’s philosophy.

A presentation complete with live birds of prey and other species by Pine View Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will be given at 12:30 p.m.

Throughout the event, those attending may grab a bite to eat, enjoy live music, try hands-on nature crafts and connect with other families who share a love of the outdoors.

The school, a charter school offering kindergarten through eighth-grade classes that’s affiliated with the Northern Ozaukee School District, is at 2200 Hawthorne Hills Camp Rd.
