One race, one new face for PW-S School Board

The spring election promises one race for the Port Washington-Saukville School Board and at least one new member.

Matt Riemer has registered to run in the April 7 election against one-term incumbent Kierstin Cira for a City of Port Washington seat on the board.

Riemer, who has three children in district schools and whose wife Sarah is a teacher at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, said he is running “to be part of the change I would like to see in the district.

“I’d like us to get past the period of transition we experienced and the self-inflicted wounds.”

A virtual design and construction senior manager, Riemer said the district needs to develop relationships with area businesses to ensure students are “future ready now.”

Cira, a third-grade teacher in the West Bend School District, said the district has made significant strides under Supt. Michael McMahon and, if re-elected, she will continue to champion the cause of public education.

“I feel very strongly about advocating for public education,” she said. 

Cira was elected to the board in 2023.

Dave Didier is running unopposed for the Town of Port Washington seat on the board being vacated by Justin Myers.

Myers, elected to the board in 2023, filed noncandidacy papers last month.

Didier is a real estate agent.

Also running unopposed is incumbent Sara McCutcheon, who serves as the board’s president and has held a Village of Saukville seat on the board for more than 28 years.

“I’m just not ready to step down,” she said. “I realized I want to continue being a part of the exciting work going on in this district.”

The deadline for filing nomination papers was 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Port Washington-Saukville School board consists of nine members — five from the City of Port Washington, two from the Village of Saukville, one from the Town of Port Washington and one who is elected at large.

Although members represent specific municipalities on the board, they are elected by all voters in the School District. They serve three-year terms.
