A once-in-a-lifetime celebration in 53024

To commemorate Zip Code Day, Grafton held a party last week that it billed as a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, and that wasn’t an exaggeration. The day on which the calendar date matches a community’s zip code happens once a century, and for 53024 Grafton, that was on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Wearing the 53024 shirts they purchased at the downtown event were Joe and Joan Groh (top left). Denise Buchholz displayed a postmark commemorating the event (top right), while 7-year-old Grant Zvara showed off a button to go along with his zip code shirt. Raffle winner Diane Denow (left in lower photo) was presented with a check for $530.24, which would have been a strange amount on any other day, by Village President Dan Delorit and Elizabeth Mueller, executive director of the Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce, which organized the celebration.  Photos by Sam Arendt
