Concrete installation on the sidewalk approaches and some portions between the curb and sidewalk was finished on Monday, and traffic may resume driving through Main Street in Belgium.

Barricades were slated to come down on Wednesday or next week, Village Public Works Director Dan Birenbaum said.

“They said once all the concrete work was done they were going to take all the barrels off,” he said.

A few street signs need to be installed and some sod work needs to be done to complete the entire project.

“It’s pretty well all finished up with just a few things on the punch list items,” he said.

Sod might have to be installed next year, given the weather, Birenbaum said. Project officials were to determine that later this week.

After completing the first phase last year, the project’s second phase this year was delayed by the requirement of a permit to work near the railroad crossing. It took months to get the document.
