New NSC proves to be just as tough

Grafton won two events and had nine other top-five finishes in taking fourth place at the North Shore Conference Indoor Meet at Whitefish Bay on March 21.

The Black Hawks scored 75 points. Homestead won with 89.5. West Bend West scored 82 and Nicolet 79.

Port Washington scored 36.5 for seventh place of 10 teams.

Abby Cibulka won the long jump for the Hawks with a leap of 17 feet, .75 inches and was on the winning 640-meter relay team along with Delaney Reindl, Lizbeth Huertas and Jaden Mirek. The team finished in 1 minute, 30.56 seconds.Cibulka added a third in the 55 dash in 7.89 and a fourth in the 200 in 28.75.

The 1,600 relay team of Reindl, Morgan Ruona, Mirek and Kate Senczyszyn took second in 4:34.34, and Taylor Weiss was second in shot put with a 33-11. Justine Tiegs was fourth with a 31-8.

Huertas took third in the 55 hurdles in 9.61.

Senczyszyn was fifth in the 400 in 1:06.36, and Grace Gasser was fifth in the high jump by clearing 4-10.

The 3,200 relay team of Ruona, Anna Eifert, Zoe Leannah and Julia Wille was fifth in 11:11.95. Reindl took eighth in the 200 in 29.25.

Alexis Reichardt led Port with second place in the 800 in 2:31.7 and fourth in the high jump by clearing 5-0. She was on the fourth-place 1,600 relay team that finished in 4:44.88 along with Isabella Reyes, Emma Goodman and Bethany Stacey.

“It was a pretty good meet. If you can place in anything, that’s good,” Port coach Joe Adamak said.

The 3,200 relay team of Emma Meyer, Goodman, Stacey and Jill Cavanaugh took third in 11:06.06.

Meyer took fifth in the 3,200 in 12:43.95 and Cavanaugh sixth in 12:48.71. Isa Shiflett took seventh in the 55 in 10.00, and Kate Erlandson was eighth in the 1,600 in 6:26.63.

On Saturday, Port came out on top of the Chris Wilson Invite at Milwaukee Lutheran. The Pirates scored 127 points to the host’s 115 to win the nine-team meet.

“It came down to our cross country kids versus the Milwaukee Lutheran sprinters. We just had a little more depth there,” Adamak said.

Port went 1-2-3 in the 3,200 behind Mira Stimac’s 15:16.44, Katie Erlandson’s 15:16.75 and Stacey’s 15:17.01.

“We had the only three runners in the two mile so it was kinda hard to not finish 1-2-3. They just had to decide who was going to finish 1-2-3,” Adamak said.

“You’ve got to have kids willing to run two miles, and if other schools don’t, we do.”

Stacey won the 1,600 in 6:09.13. Stimac was third in 6:15.57 and Erlandson fourth in 6:17.13.

Reichardt won the 400 in 1:06. The 1,600 relay team of Reichardt, Reyes, Jane Kautz and Emily Mitchell won in 4:43.79, and the 3,200 relay team of Stacey, Stimac, Erlandson and Cavanaugh won in 11:47.03.

Shiflett was second in the long jump with a 13-11.5 and third in the 55 hurdles in 10.2.

Reichardt was third in the 800 in 2:37.22 and in the high jump by clearing 5-0.

The 640 relay team of Hannah Jentink, Shiflett, Grace Schumacher and Mitchell was fourth in 1:40.31.

Port won despite a small lineup due to spring break.

“The kids that were there ran a lot and did well,” Adamak said.

Reichardt starred for Port at the 23-team Oshkosh Invite on Monday.

The senior took third in the 800 in a personal-record 2:23.44 and in the high jump by clearing 5-0.

The next closest Port came to scoring was a ninth place in the 60 hurdles by Jane Kautz in at PR 10.5.

Now on spring break, Adamak said he’ll get some training in with those who aren’t traveling. The timing of the break isn’t bad, he said.

“If you’re going to get disrupted, get it out of the way early,” he said.

Grafton next competes at Whitefish Bay April 18 and Port at West Bend West on April 20.
