New fire department sign is installed

The Belgium Fire Department last month installed a new sign in front of the fire station at 195 Commerce St. The sign was designed by Sherry Smies of Smies Design, who designed the Village of Belgium’s logo. Primecast Advertising in Grafton made the sign, and department members installed it themselves. The sign cost $2,100, which was paid for with donations made to the department over the years, First Assistant Fire Chief Pat Wester said. “It turned out very good,” he said. The sign replaced the old one that had “Village of Belgium” on it. The department serves the village and the town. The Village Plan Commission in fall unanimously approved a permit for the new sign.
