Nature’s Treasures Week is Sept. 8 to 13

A week of nature-based activities is being planned to celebrate Nature’s Treasures Week from Sept. 8 to 13.

The event includes activities in Ozaukee, Washington and Milwaukee counties.

It kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 8, with an 8 to 10 a.m. hike at the Mequon Nature Preserve and a 5:30 to 7 p.m. talk, “One Watershed” with Riveredge Nature Center representatives at Martin Luther King Library in Milwaukee.

On Wednesday, there will be a birding program from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Urban Ecology Center in Milwaukee’s Washington Park, followed by monarch tagging at the Mequon Nature Preserve from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and a Kinnickinnick River Walk on the KK River Trail in Milwaukee from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, there will be monarch tagging at the Urban Ecology Center at Riverside Park in Milwaukee from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., art in the park at Forest Beach Migratory Preserve in the Town of Belgium from 5 to 7 p.m. and a birding and botanizing program at Kletzsch Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, a habitat hike with the Cedar Lakes Conservation Foundation will be held at Rudorf Farm in Washington County from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and kayaking on the Milwaukee River with Restoring Lands from 5 to 7p.m.

On Saturday, a remnant beech woods walk at Fitzsimmons Woods in Franklin will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., a tree walk at Kratzsch Conservancy in the Town of Trenton from 10 a.m. to noon and a sylvotherapy stroll at Huiras Lake from 4 to 6 p.m.

On Sunday, the event will conclude with a bog walk at the Cedarburg Bog in the Town of Saukville from 9 a.m. to noon, a grandparents day open house at Blue Lotus Center in Washington County from 1 to 4 p.m. and a sylvotherapy stroll at Fellenz Woods in West Bend from 4 to 6 p.m.
