Nancy June Powers

Nancy June Powers of Fredonia passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

She was born in Chicago, Ill., to Howard and Mary June McDonald on Jan. 18, 1946.

Nancy dedicated her life to helping the elderly. While raising four children as a single mother, she worked full time while obtaining her nursing degree.

After graduating, she took a position working for Rock County Health Services. Her passion led her to acquire a community based residential facility with other colleagues and in 1995 they opened Cozy Lil’ Acre. They successfully helped many families and were able to open a second facility in 2000.

Nancy is survived by her children Bonnie (Greg) Huggins and Julie (Ron) Schram; grandchildren Danielle Kostial, Ty Hesterman, Olivia Hesterman, Melanie Schram and Angela Schram; and brother Bruce McDonald.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Powers, son Stephen Ferneau and stepfather Robert Wayne.

Nancy is further survived by her estranged daughter Jacqueline (Robert) Hein.

A funeral service for Nancy will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Grant St., Port Washington, WI 53074. Pastor Martin Wildauer will preside. The family will receive visitors at the church from 4 p.m. until the service at 6:30 p.m.

Nancy will be laid to rest next to her husband and son at Milton Lawns Memorial Park in Janesville on Friday, April 12, 2024, at noon.

Eernisse Funeral Home of Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
