A mural for the ages

Artist Kelly Meredith (front) was among those who were present for the unveiling last week of the mural she created as part of the Paint on Port program. The mural, which commemorates the first time a “talkie” movie was shown in Ozaukee County at the former Ozaukee Theatre in 1929, was installed at the Old Theatre Square building at 116 W. Grand Ave. on Aug. 7 and depicts Adolph Ansay, Jon Neitzke, Sam DeMerit, Nick R. Didier, Rosalia Johannes Roob, William Roob, Lawrence George Verheyen, Esther Catherine Roob Verheyen and Gerry Kultgen. Behind Meredith were relatives of some of the people she portrayed in her mural, including Charlie Neitzke, Ted Neitzke, Julie Neitzke, Megan Neitzke, Ruby Didier, Pat Didier, Nick Didier, Dave Didier, Ray Kultgen, Sherri Kultgen, Valarie Kultgen Bartelme, Dave Bartelme, Addy Bartelme, Ellie Bartelme, Nick Ansay, George Verheyen, Larry Verheyen and Rosemary Verheyen.    Photo by Sam Arendt
