Miller picks it up at the plate in AAA
Fredonia native Owen Miller started the season slowly at the plate for the Iowa Cubs, the Chicago Cubs Triple-A affiliate, but has gotten hot enough to eclipse batting .300.
Miller is hitting .305 at the All-Star break with a .363 on-base percentage, five home runs, 42 RBIs, 19 doubles and six triples.
He has played first, second and third base, shortstop, left and right field, and he has been a designated hitter.
Most of his games — 22 of 68 — he’s played at shortstop, where he has a .987 fielding percentage.
Miller’s younger brother, Noah, who plays for the Oklahoma Drillers, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Triple-A club, is hitting .255 with a .330 on-base percentage, 50 RBIs, 10 homers, eight triples and 13 doubles.
He has primarily played shortstop — 75 of 87 games — where he has a .973 fielding percentage.
Port Washington’s George Klassen, a pitcher with the Salt Lake Bees, the Los Angeles Angels’ Triple-A affiliate, has a 4.48 ERA and a 4-6 record. He made his Major League debut this season and started two games, striking out six batters in 4-2/3 innings, before being sent back to the Bees.
Klassen’s fastball regularly eclipses 100 mph.
