Middle school math students shine

A few Cedar Grove-Belgium sixth, seventh and eighth-graders stood out at a math meet last month at Lakeland University in Howards Grove.

Seventh-grader Tristan Olsen made the all-star team by earning a score of 28 out of 40, which tied for sixth place out of more than 350 students.

Eighth-graders Jenna Emperley, Zoe Vance Poropat and Elly Dieringer got scores of 23 of 40 and missed earning honorable mention by one point.

The top-performing sixth-grader was Evelin Ramos.

The school’s top-performing team took seventh place of 56. Members included Emperley, Poropat, Aidan Mellesmoen, Paul Goodno, Tristan Olsen, Hannah Peterson, Katelyn Morris and Aaron Held. Other teams took ninth and 12th places.

Teacher Kathy Gee prepared the students and scored tests at the meet.
